Exterior

Exterior Styling
The bold look of the IS starts with the front bumper and its aggressive grille.  LED daytime running lights are now available, giving the IS an even more dramatic air.  Lower body paneling and taillamps are sleek and race-like.  Chrome exhaust finishers are more pronounced.  These enhancements contribute to a profile that is not only visually arresting, but incredibly aerodynamic.

Aerodynamic Design
The aerodynamic IS slices through the wind, with a drag coefficient of a mere 0.28. The end results are enhanced ride quality at higher speeds, reduced wind noise and improved fuel economy.

Smart Access
By recognizing the unique secure code transmitted from your key fob, the SmartAccess [1] [2] system allows you to unlock and open your vehicle's door and trunk without having to remove your key from your pocket or purse. The system also activates an entry lighting system that illuminates your path of entry, from the door handle to the ignition button.

[1] The SmartAccess system may interfere with some pacemakers or cardiac defibrillators. If you have one of these medical devices, please talk to your doctor to see if you should deactivate this system.
[2] The engine immobilizer is a state-of-the-art anti-theft system.  When you insert your key into the ignition switch or bring a SmartAccess fob into the vehicle, the key transmits an electronic code to the vehicle.  The engine will only start if the code to the transponder chip inside the key or SmartAccess fob matches the code in the vehicle's immobilizer.  Because the transponder chip is embedded in the key or SmartAccess fob, it can be costly to replace.  If you lose a key or SmartAccess fob, your Lexus dealer can help.  Alternatively, you can find a qualified independent locksmith to perform high-security key services by consulting your local Yellow Pages or by contacting www.aloa.org.

Intuitive Parking Assist
With six ultrasonic sensors (two in the front, four in the rear), available Intuitive Parking Assist detects how close your vehicle is tosurrounding objects. Distance is indicated by the multi-informational display, accompanied by an audible beep. The closer the vehicle is to the object, the fewer lines appear on the display and the more frequent the beeping becomes.

Alloy Wheels
Boosting both the aesthetics and performance of the 2012 IS are new 17-inch 10-spoke alloy wheels [1] fitted with high-performance tires. IS models with rear-wheel drive are also available with 18-in five-spoke wheels [2] , which are 8 inches wide at the front and 8.5 inches wide at the rear. And those with the available F SPORT Package receive unique 18-inch, split five-spoke wheels with Dark Superchrome finish.

[1] 17-in tires are expected to experience greater tire wear than conventional tires. Tire life may be substantially less than 20,000 miles, depending on driving conditions.
[2] 18-in tires are expected to experience greater tire wear than conventional tires. Tire life may be substantially less than 15,000 miles, depending on driving conditions.

Exterior Lighting
These available Bi-Xenon™ High-Intensity Discharge (HID) headlamps are brighter than conventional halogen headlamps, use less energy and last significantly longer.  In addition, an auto-leveling feature helps to ensure that the headlamps remain pointed at the proper angle.  These available headlamps also include LED daytime running lights, which use less energy while adding a dramatic air.  For additional safety, the IS comes with LED brake lights.  Since they illuminate faster than standard bulbs, they can help give the driver behind you see you better and help them respond in emergency situations faster.

Backup Camera
Backing out of tight spaces is much easier with the available backup camera [1]. Offered only with the available voice-activated HDD Navigation System [2] , this system uses a tiny camera located above the rear license plate to help show what's behind the vehicle. Place the IS in reverse, and the camera's view is displayed in full color on the seven-inch LCD screen.

[1] The backup camera does not provide a comprehensive view of the rear area of the vehicle. You should also look around outside your vehicle and use your mirrors to confirm rearward clearance. Cold weather will limit effectiveness and view may become cloudy.
[2] Availability and accuracy of the information provided by the Navigation System or any XM services mentioned (if installed) are dependent upon many factors.  Use common sense when relying on information provided.  Services not available in every city or roadway.  Periodic Navigation updates available at additional cost.  Please see your Navigation System Owner's Manual or contact XM for details.

Rain-Sensing Wipers
The available rain-sensing wipers are equipped with a sensor that can detect water on the windshield, thereby activating the wipers. The system then adjusts the speed as often as necessary depending on the amount of rainfall.

Reverse Tilt-Down Exterior Mirrors
Turn signals are integrated into the side-view mirrors to help signal your fellow drivers. For easier parallel parking, available reverse tilt-down side-view mirrors are linked to the gear shifter and tilt down when the vehicle is placed in reverse.

Integrated Foglamps
Integrated stylishly into the lower corners of the front bumper is a set of foglamps. Not only do they help you see better in inclement weather, they help reduce glare for oncoming drivers.

F-Sport™ Package
The F Sport™ Package is designed to enhance the looks of your IS 350 or IS 250, as well as its performance.  With exclusive features like front-lip and rear-deck spoilers, an F Sport grille, special 18-inch Dark Graphite - finished wheels [1] and a suspension system tuned by the same team that engineered the first Lexus supercar, the LFA.  Also exclusive to the package:  an attention-grabbing Ultrasonic Blue exterior paint finish and a range of interior styling upgrades to complement its more aggressive-looking exterior.

[1] 18-in performance tires are expected to experience greater tire wear than conventional tires.  Tire life may substantially be less than 15,000 miles, depending upon driving conditions.
